<image:title>Home - I’m passionate about supporting you on the journey because I get how it can feel. I deeply want to understand how it feels for you & meet your therapy needs.</image:title>
<image:caption>My practice’s philosophy is informed by dialectics, the idea that multiple perspectives and stances can be true at the same time, and that as human beings we are unable to see the whole picture. If we can acknowledge that, we can stop seeing the world in all or nothing standards, (who is right and who is wrong or who wins the argument or who loses), and we can start living in the spaces in between. This is where the full spectrum of experience, joy, sadness, creativity, sensuality, pain, vulnerability, deep connection really exists. With this way of thinking, we can move away from shame and fear of failure and really dig into the meat of what life has to offer.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Why work with me?</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m not saying I’m perfect or that I have it all figured out. Far from that. As a therapist I don’t have all the answers. Not even half of them. However, I am someone who is very empathetic, with a brain that can analyze internal systems very quickly. I’m pretty good at balancing serious work and goofiness. Both are important to the therapeutic process. In a lot of ways, my neurodivergence makes me a better therapist. Because of it, I’m nonjudgmental, and able to hold multiple different perspectives in my head at once. I am very comfortable with emotional expression— willing to dive into the depths of grief, where others might shy away. I’m also pretty good with words. I am a writer, as well as a therapist. Sometimes I think of myself as a translator of inner experience. I help people take what is unknown or unspoken and unearth it, helping you put your experience into words so you can make sense of yourself and be better seen by others.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This is Milou, and if you work with me you will likely see him coming in and out of the session. He’s still a puppy, but already a wonderful ESA and comforting, snuggly presence! My hope is that I can train him to become a therapy dog for when I have a brick and mortar office again. Milou's portrait is by artist & friend, Robin Hayashi.</image:caption>

<image:title>For Parents - For Parents</image:title>
<image:caption>Takiwatanga is an indigenous Maori word for Autism that roughly translates to “in their own space and time”. This does not only apply to those on the Autism spectrum or those who are formally diagnosed as neurodivergent more generally, but also provides some wisdom for the parent-child relationship. It is incredibly hard to slow down and meet your child in their own space in time while parenting in a world that emphasizes rushing, multitasking, specific types of accomplishment, and constant striving. It doesn’t help that there is a ton of comparison and unsolicited advice from other parents, as well as information out there that is overwhelming to parse through, contradictory or doesn’t seem to fit your child’s unique needs.</image:caption>

<image:title>Teens - For Teens</image:title>
<image:caption>Your generation has a lot to deal with and it may make you feel overwhelmed, shut down, anxious and depressed. The constant social media updates, feeling like you have to be available to others 24/7, feeling like you’re constantly reading about how many people are suffering in the world and also feeling a huge pressure to “save the world” from a lot of the harm caused by the powers that be… is utterly exhausting. Especially in the age of COVID. And it can seem like the adults in your life just don’t really get it. I can help you to learn how to manage the overwhelm and take it one step at a time so you can feel like you actually have time to breathe and enjoy your life. I can help you learn how to both feel your emotions and not get swallowed whole by them. Together we will work towards understanding how your own brain works, how to use specific skills to help you feel less overwhelmed and distressed, how to advocate for yourself with parents and teachers and friends, and how to feel more confident in who you are and pursue what you are interested in. I want to help you learn dialectical thinking (the idea that there is no one right answer or way to be in the world) and that when we move away from binaries like perfectionism vs failure, we feel a lot happier and more secure in ourselves I’m also pretty much always down to talk about your special interests. From foraging mushrooms to finding and reading the best fanfiction to taking apart machines and rebuilding them, I’m there.</image:caption>

<image:title>Neurodivergent - Neurodivergent Adults</image:title>
<image:caption>I offer services for adults who may suspect a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or may have just been formally diagnosed to process what this all means. We can work on ways you might adapt your life to be more supportive of your needs as a neurodivergent person, better understand your past experiences, and heal from the burnout involved in masking and the traumatic invalidation involved in growing up different but being told you were just “too sensitive” or “too disorganized” or “too much”, etc., etc. Together, we will work on unmasking, reconnecting with old special interests, discovering new coping mechanisms and celebrating what it really means to be neurodivergent. Recently, many studies have shown what those of us with lived experience have always known deep in our bones: that neurodivergence is underdiagnosed in people who are not white, cisgender male, straight, or young. That the research has always exclusively focused on those groups and has neglected anyone who may check that other category. That masking or codeswitching or hiding who you really are to fit in is both a societal expectation of those who occupy any marginalized status and also is a barrier to getting real, meaningful care and support. Please note that while I cannot formally diagnose you with ASD or ADHD, I can point you in the direction of psychologists who are able to conduct psychological assessments and are up to date on the current research.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gender Expansive - For Gender Expansive Individuals</image:title>
<image:caption>When I say gender expansive, I mean anyone who doesn’t identify as cisgender, whether it may mean that you are questioning, are actively seeking out HRT or gender affirming surgery, or are living outside of the binary or outside of gender altogether. I welcome you, wherever you are in your journey. I have specialized training specifically for helping gender expansive individuals cope with the many stressors related to the experience of being gender-diverse in a world that is obsessed with binaries and scientifically unsubstantiated biological determinism. I specifically work with folks who are experiencing dysphoria related to the body they are living in, sexuality, struggles with food and eating as a result of dysphoria, preparing for transitioning (and the many different pathways towards that, whether it be a medical pursuit or learning how to be more confident in your own skin and present the way you feel internally), as well as working with healing from traumatic invalidation related to being shamed by family members and systems as a whole. I am especially helpful when it comes to work around intersections related to gender expansiveness, neurodivergence and struggles with disordered eating.</image:caption>

<image:title>Artists - For Artists</image:title>
<image:caption>It can be hard to be creative in today’s world when every practice seems to be seen through the lens of how it can be monetized and turned into some sort of hustle. Capitalism is not so great for creative expression, and neither is shame and feeling like you always have to cater to some unseen audience. Perhaps you have been blocked or have been procrastinating (I have been there). Perhaps every time you think about pursuing your art something else comes up that you have to attend to. Perhaps you don’t feel your creative practice is worth spending time on, especially if it doesn’t make you money or yield immediate measurable results. My hope is to help you get back into the mindful flow of your creative practice and stay grounded in the process and ritual of creative expression, rather than getting mired in the capitalist expectation of a perfect product. I can help you combat feelings of unworthiness and imposter syndrome so that you can get back to doing what you love and actually loving it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mission - Why Keeping Things Whole?</image:title>
<image:caption>I named my business after a Mark Strand poem called Keeping Things Whole. As a writer, I believe that therapy and poetics are intertwined processes, often one and the same. Metaphor is so important for helping us understand and communicate internal, subjective experience. When I read this poem, I am reminded that we are part of the universe and the universe is part of us, constantly changing, shifting and growing. I am reminded that when the only constant is change, we must move with its flow, we must move to stay with all the joys and sorrows. While we so often search outside ourselves for what is missing, in the end, we are what we find. Though, in my opinion, one of the best parts of poetry is that we can all be reading the same poem and each come up with entirely different interpretations. I leave you to yours.</image:caption>

<image:title>Mission - Why all the ocean pictures? You may have noticed imagery of the ocean around my website. Water is an incredibly important element for me that symbolizes the ability to move with the surf, the vicissitudes of change. I have pictures of both the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean to symbolize my bicoastal practice and the beautiful waters I call home.</image:title>
